Since 2004, April McLeod, owner of The Teacher's Pets, has been providing  peace of mind for pets who prefer the comfort of home rather than board in an unfamiliar and overwhelming facility . 

Whether  you need to schedule weekly or occasional dog walks, drop-in visits, or in-home overnight care, April will treat your pets as if they were her very own! 

April also offers dog training for parents who not only find it challenging to walk their dogs but to live with them as well due to common behaviors such as separation anxiety, reactivity, resource guarding, and so much more!

April + her dog, Daisy, have basically become members of our family. Our bulldogs, Iggy + Lemmy, + our giant lab, Arty, look forward to walks with "the girls" a few times a week. My husband + I travel several times a month overnight + we couldn't do it without April. April is an amazing pet sitter!! My husband and I went away for a few days and she kept my 8 birds , 3 guinea pigs, and 1 fish happy and healthy. She came twice a day and not only fed them but spent quality time with them. With her kind manner you can rest assured your pets will be comfortable in her presence. She kept us up to date with pictures and videos and even posted beautiful videos on her Instagram account where I was able to see her interact with my pets. The initial introduction and paperwork process when she first met us made us feel comfortable she would take great care of our pets. She keep a thorough binder with all the details of every single pet and even came several times to ensure she felt comfortable with how we wanted her to care for our animals. I'm blessed to have come across such a warm and kind hearted person to care for my animals!

I highly recommend this service to anyone living in the Dover area. April took wonderful care of our needy Siamese cats while we were away. She is extremely reliable and detail-oriented, taking time to learn about each of your pet's needs and spend extra time with them. I loved that each visit included check-in texts with lots of pictures and videos of our babies. We felt a big weight off of shoulders knowing that they were being cared for by someone who truly loves and cares for animals. I will absolutely book with April again.

If you're looking for someone that will just provide the basics for your pet select any of the sitters that come up in your search. If you are looking for someone who will care for them as if they were her very own, will go above + provide comfort in what could be a difficult time for them + keep you informed, call April. You will not be disappointed, neither will your pets. I told her beforehand that Sandi hated dogs + when I would walk her she would growl, bark, + pull on leash. Imagine my shock when she texted to say that Sandi didn't show any of that behavior + eventually she brought her dog (with my permission) to walk together beautifully! She even sent me photos as proof. I adopted a boxer mix (Jilly) after Sandi died who had been at the shelter for 9 months + they said that she should be kept away from other dogs but once again, in a short time, she performed her magic in walking her with her own dog, Daisy, + they even went on field trips to some shops around town which was above + beyond my expectations.

Ms McLeod is a bright + caring person who turned her career towards animal care who understands animals at a deep level + is in tune with their thoughts + feelings. One of my dogs was traumatized by a car accident + was able to nurture him + help him back to health. April is a reliable + can be trusted to keep her word + take excellent care of animals. April walked our baby boy, Buddy, for a shorter time than anticipated as he unexpectedly passed away from parvo after a few months of weekly walks. We were absolutely most grateful that he was able to enjoy not only walking but she also gave him adventures with sightseeing trips + visits to the gas station to get milk bones from the gas attendant! Her rates were much cheaper than boarding + my dogs received better treatment with in-home care than if they were boarded. Joey + Ronan even had field trips to special places such as Livingston Park which was above + beyond what we expected. Because of her training sessions, Joey will be able to go camping with us!

Raven (our Russian Blue) + Twyla (our Bengal) loved April's visits because she was prompt, thorough, and affectionate. On one of our lengthier trip she noticed they were getting extremely needy so she brought her radio over to distract + soothe them! We appreciated the daily pictures + videos too!

We didn't want to board our cats so it was a relief to find out that April makes home visits! George, Khaleesi, & Blue enjoyed 2 visits a day & when I say "enjoyed" it was amazing that 1 of our cats came down from her perch after lots of coaxing! Yes! 

There is a $20 additional charge per day (not per visit) on major holidays. 
Only April will visit your pets! 
No, April is the sole caretaker and does not have employees or IC's. 

Sharing visits is a liability concern & it affects the peace of mind of pets. 

Emergency visits with prior notice is priority

Please schedule housekeeping, lawn care, pest control, etc, until after the booking.
Cats are visited on a daily basis. 

Indoor/outdoor cats must remain inside.

Yes, but only in pill or liquid form.
Payment is due at the time of confirmation of availability. 

Payment is due in full no matter how far out the dates of service may be. 

Reservations aren't guaranteed until payment is made. 

We accept cash, Venmo, or Zelle.
